The Best Detroit Restaurant for Every Valentine’s Day…Situation
Step 1: DTR (define the relationship) or in this case, DTS (define the situation)
Step 2: Go to suggested restaurant (or don’t, these are merely just suggestions) based on the situation you’ve defined in step 1

The #GirlSquad
Takoi - Corktown
If you’re taking a cue from Queen B and celebrating with all the single ladies, hit up Corktown’s trendy, Thai-inspired restaurant, Takoi. With shareable plates, delicious drinks and a totally #instagramable interior (think dark & moody, modern, neon lights), Takoi is the perfect spot to celebrate Galentine’s Day. Looking to keep the night going? Head over to Candy Bar in the Siren Hotel for drinks. Not only are the drinks great (and not totally ridiculously overpriced), but the cozy, intimate bar is also totally #instagramable (can we say, disco ball?) and appropriately decorated almost entirely and quite ridiculously (in the best way possible) - in pink.

Valentine’s Day is a holiday (a.k.a. an excuse to drink) guy group
Punchbowl Social - Downtown
If you and your friends use any holiday as an excuse to get a little rowdy and relive your frat star glory days, Punchbowl Social is perfect for you. With plenty of space, decent food, drinks, games and even bowling, you’ll be in your element. Bonus: There’s a bound to be a group of single girls there too. Also, you’re close to Greektown if you’re trying to make it one of those nights.

Anti-Valentine’s day friend group
Marrow - West Village
If Valentine’s Day is an excuse for you to make dinner plans with friends, avoid all of the happy couples flocking to downtown from the ‘burbs and head on over to West Village for a “farm to fork” experience at Marrow. Not a big fan of the commoditization of love? Then take comfort in knowing that as you build your own meat and cheese board, you’re supporting local farmers and Marrow’s zero-waste efforts rather than Hallmark’s bottom line.

The Talking/Undefined/We met yesterday new relationship
Bakersfield - Midtown
Swiped right a little too close to Valentine’s Day? Take some of the pressure off and make Midtown’s Bakersfield your spot. With a casual atmosphere and a very reasonably priced menu, Valentine’s Day can be just like any other awkward first date. And if not, then might I suggest splitting a pitcher of the pineapple margarita to make things a little more...fun.

The “honeymoon phase” couple
Prime & Proper - Capital Park
If you’re in a semi-new relationship and still riding high on that honeymoon phase (or you’re literally on your honeymoon - in which case, what’s wrong with you, please go somewhere warm), then splurge on a memorable hunk of meat at Prime & Proper with all of the other extravagant Valentine’s Day goers. Pro tip: If seeing an extensive number of slabs of dry aged beef doesn’t, uhh, turn you on, then avoid using the restroom downstairs. It just might slaughter your honeymoon phase (pun intended).

Forever couple that takes V-Day v serious
San Morello - Downtown
If Valentine’s Day is THE day of the year for you and your significant other to celebrate your everlasting relationship, then I probably don’t need to suggest Downtown’s new hotspot, San Morello since I’m guessing you already made a reservation months ago prior to their highly anticipated opening.

Forever couple/parents that are just so glad they found a babysitter
Fort Street Galley - Downtown
If you’re like many multitasking parents and Valentine’s Day crept up on you again this year, take advantage of your rare night out at Fort Street Galley. They don’t even take reservations so you can stress a little less about having to tell your SO that you forgot to make one. It’s essentially a fancy food hall where you get to choose from different restaurants so your options are much less limited than if you were home feeding your little picky eaters.

A couple that argues all the time
White Castle - Detroit
If this is you, save the rest of who are simply trying to enjoy our Valentine’s Day the uncomfortable feeling that comes with watching couples argue in public by staying home and ordering in (hello Uber Eats?). But if you insist on going out for a sit down dinner, make a reservation via OpenTable at White Castle for their yearly Valentine’s Day Dinner. They also deliver.

Anti-Valentine’s Day couple
Home: You’re Home
If you’re not at Marrow with a group of like-minded friends, then I’m guessing you’re also not reading this blog post given the words “Valentine’s” and “Day” are in the title.

Single Beaver
Gather - Eastern Market
If you’re venturing out on your own (props to you), head over to Gather in the Eastern Market neighborhood. Gather’s intimate space is designed to bring people together (their words, not mine - although I agree from experience) with communal dining tables, bar seats and super friendly staff. Enjoying your me time and not ready to call it a night? Follow your great meal with a great beer upstairs at the new beer bar, Collect. You never know, maybe you and the bartender will spark up a riveting conversation about the brightness yet complexity of the IPA you ordered.
